What is the Ransackers project?

Ransackers is a unique study experience giving older people (over 50 years of age ) who do not hold a UK degree, the opportunity to undertake research on a topic of their own choice. All students (we call ‘Ransackers’) are offered tuition in study skills and in information technology.

Where do Ransackers study?

Ransackers can live in to study in one of the four residential colleges in England: Fircroft, Hillcroft, Northern and Ruskin for ten weeks, or they can attend on a daily basis at a local university: Brighton University campus in Hastings and Strathclyde University in Glasgow for 20 weeks. Other universities are considering offering the programme in England Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Please go to the contacts page for more information.

What qualifications are needed and how much does a Ransackers course cost?

No prior qualifications are required although the ability to write in English is necessary. There are no exams but all students write up their research project.

Full Ransackers courses do not currently charge tuition fees and bursaries are available for students choosing the residential courses, to cover the cost of accommodation and food.
